How to set up Claude with Slack

Claude AI’s Slack integration lets you search messages, summarize channels, and catch up on conversations without leaving Claude. Once connected, Claude can read messages, threads, and channel histories directly from your Slack workspace — no scrolling, no digging through pinned items. It takes less than a minute to set up.

You need a Claude Pro or Team plan. The integration is read-only: Claude can search and read messages, but it cannot post, edit, or delete anything in your Slack workspace. You control which channels Claude can access during the OAuth authorization flow.

How to Connect Slack to Claude

  1. Open Claude and go to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Find Slack in the list and click Connect.
  3. Sign in with your Slack account and select which channels to grant access to.
  4. Slack now appears as a context source in your conversations.
  5. To disconnect, return to Settings > Integrations and click Remove.

FAQ

› Is the Claude Slack integration free?
No. You need a Claude Pro ($20/month) or Team ($30/user/month) plan. The free tier does not support integrations.
› Can Claude send messages in Slack?
No. The integration is read-only. Claude can search and read messages but cannot post, edit, or delete anything in your Slack workspace.
› Does Claude have access to private channels and DMs?
Only channels you explicitly grant access to during the OAuth flow. Direct messages and private channels are excluded unless you specifically authorize them.
› Is my data safe when I connect Slack to Claude?
Yes. Anthropic does not use your conversations or connected messages to train its models on Pro and Team plans. You can disconnect at any time.
› Can I use Claude with Slack on mobile?
Yes. The integration works on claude.ai from any browser, including mobile. There is no separate app required.

Why Use Claude with Slack

  1. Catch up on channels you missed without reading hundreds of messages.
  2. Search across your workspace using natural language instead of Slack’s search syntax.
  3. Summarize long threads in seconds — get the key decisions without the back-and-forth.
  4. Find specific conversations by topic, person, or date range without scrolling.
  5. Extract action items from discussions that would otherwise get buried in the feed.
  6. Slack is just one of many — see the complete guide to Claude integrations for the full list.

How to Use Claude with Slack Efficiently

  1. Ask Claude to summarize one channel at a time — “summarize #engineering from the last 3 days” produces better results than “summarize everything.”
  2. Use date ranges to narrow searches — “find messages about the API outage last Tuesday” is faster than “find messages about outages.”
  3. Combine Slack with the Notion integration to turn Slack discussions into structured Notion pages automatically.
  4. Ask Claude to extract decisions, not just summaries — “what did the team decide about pricing?” is more useful than “summarize the pricing thread.”
  5. Use Claude to prepare for meetings — ask it to pull the last week of relevant channel activity so you walk in informed.
  6. Review channel access quarterly — remove channels Claude no longer needs to read.

What You Can Do With Claude and Slack

  1. Summarize channels — ask Claude to condense a week of messages into five key points with names and dates.
  2. Search by topic — find every message about a specific feature, client, or incident across all connected channels.
  3. Extract action items — point Claude at a thread and ask it to list every task mentioned, who owns it, and the deadline.
  4. Catch up after time off — ask Claude to summarize everything you missed in your top channels while you were away.
  5. Track decisions — ask Claude to find the last time the team discussed a specific topic and what was decided.
  6. Cross-reference with other tools — pull Slack context alongside a GitHub pull request to understand the discussion around a code change.
